“The River to Come”

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!   38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”   39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.) John 7:37-39

Jesus speaks of rivers to come that will flow from all who believe in Him.  This prompted me to ask, “To what extent is that true of me?”  The question convicts me and inspires me.  It convicts me that  what should be a river in me is, sometimes, nothing more than a creek.  It inspires me that the creek can, once again, become a river. I’m looking forward to restarting our “Journey with John” this coming Sunday as we consider three crucial things in this passage – Christ’s call, Christ’s invitation, and Christ’s promise. See you Sunday, pastor jamie
