“Jesus Descended to Where?”

The Apostles’ Creed is based upon the writings of the Apostles. It focuses on twelve fundamental doctrines of the historic Christian faith. There’s one line in the creed that has sparked much conversation over the centuries – “He descended to the dead.” Before 390 AD, that line read, “He descended into Hell,” but it was changed when scholars realized the Greek word “Hades” (the temporary abode of the dead) had, in many places, been incorrectly translated as “Hell” (the eternal place of the damned). In prep for Sunday, please take the time to read a story Jesus told in Luke 16:19-31.  This story answers some very important questions regarding the afterlife. On Sunday, I will focus on three important questions –

Where did Jesus go between His death and resurrection?

Why did he go there?

Why does this doctrine matter to us today?
