Help Wanted!

It was a typical summer day when the sign first caught my eye! There it was – “Help Wanted!”  – prominently displayed in the front window of the Doubletree restaurant in my little town of Platteville, Colorado. Cool thing was, I was looking for a job at the time and this one seemed perfect, being just one block from my house. I went inside to look for Miss Bertha who owned the Doubletree and was also a member of our local Methodist church.  When I asked her about the job she  said, “I need a dishwasher.” “I can wash dishes,” I quickly said.  “Well then, when can you start?” she asked.  “Whenever you want me too,” I answered.  “All right, be here tomorrow morning and we’ll get this thing underway.”  And that’s how I got my first “real” job. This past week in my study of God’s Word, I saw another “Help Wanted” sign.  This time it was a sign reminding me that I’ve been given a job in what Jesus calls the harvest.  Take a look at Matthew 9:35-38. Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.  So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”  Have you responded to God’s “help wanted” sign as it relates to the harvest? Looking forward to Sunday! pastor jamie
