How Do We Pray?

I recently read a story of a father who took his small son with him to town one day to run some errands.  When lunch time arrived, the two of them went to a familiar diner for a sandwich.  The father sat down on one of the stools at the counter and lifted the boy up to the seat beside him.  They ordered lunch, and when the waiter brought the food, the father said, “Son, we’ll just have a silent prayer.”  The father got done praying first and waited for the boy to finish his prayer, but he just sat with his head bowed for an unusually long time.  When he finally looked up, his father asked him, “What in the world were you praying about all that time?”  With the innocence and honesty of a child, he replied, “How do I know?  It was a silent prayer.” In week one of our Living on A Prayer series, we answered the question “What is prayer?”  Last week, Pastor Jamie helped us address the question “Why do we pray?”  In this, our third week of our series, we will answer the question “How do we pray?”  There is much we can learn from this young boy and his father when it comes to answering this question.  But there is so much more we can learn from the story we find in Luke 11:1-10. The disciples make a request of Jesus that sadly is frequently overlooked.  They make this request to Jesus, “Teach us how to pray.”  And just like our good Father does, he responds in only a way that He can. I pray you can join us this coming Sunday as we continue our series Living on a Prayer.  This has already proven to be a powerful series as I continue to hear stories of how God is moving and answering the prayers of people in our church.  I believe this week’s message could change the way you answer the question “How do we pray.”  I look forward to worshiping alongside of you. Blessings, Pastor Brandon
