“Who Made You the Judge?”

This coming Sunday, we’ll work through Matthew 7:1-5.

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.  3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?  4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?  5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”

This passage comes from what we know as the Sermon on the Mount.  In that sermon and throughout the Gospels, Jesus describes what life is to look like for those who have left the ways of the world and now live in the Kingdom of God.  It is not an over-exaggeration to say that the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world are polar opposites. As it relates to the subject of judgmentalism, Jesus points out that believers are to correct themselves before they try to correct others. In addition, when they confront each other’s sins they are to do so without assuming the role of God.  Moreover, believers are to know the difference between judging a person’s actions and rejecting their person. I’m looking forward to Sunday as we delve into this very important subject and as we answer the question, “Who made you the judge?” See you Sunday! pastor jamie
